RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Al Nasr edged out Qatar’s Al Sadd 2-1 in Monday’s quarter-final first leg to have one foot in the AFC Champions League last four.
Al Sadd took the lead through Ali Asadalla's goal in the 21st minute, before Al Nasr returned two goals through Abdulrahman Al-Dosari in the 44th minute and Juliano in the 72nd minute in front of a large crowd at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh.
The return match between the two teams will be held on 16 September in Doha.
In the first round, Al Nasr finished second in Group A with 10 points from 6 games, two points behind Iran's Dhobahan, 8 for Iraqi Zawra and 3 for Al Wasl, and in the 16th round over UAE's Al Wahda 4-3 on aggregate.
In contrast, Al Sadd led Group D with 10 points from 6 games, compared to 9 points for Al Ahli of Saudi Arabia, 8 for Pakhtakor of Uzbekistan and 7 for Persepolis of Iran, and won in the round of 16 against Al Duhail by 4-2 on aggregate.
